After we'd taken this ferry across the river, we stopped and ate a picnic lunch beside the water. We noticed that, amazingly, the ferry was drifting away from the shore. Digby shouted some words of warning in Vietnamese, and some people milling on the bank located the boat's operator. After calmly shedding his clothes, he swam after it (you can see him here) and steered it back to shore without incident. Had Digby not alerted him, though, the ferry surely would've been out of reach before long. The driver seemed a bit embarassed, but was awfully nonchalant about the whole thing.
